The shopping and business centre ‘Königsbau Passagen’ (‘Königsbau’ arcades) is part of the extensive urban reorganization of Stuttgart’s city centre. Situated directly behind the historic ‘Königsbau’, the new building carefully integrates the historical monument. It is characterized by its harmoniously structured stone façade. A curved glass surface roofs over the inner courtyard of the block. Three arcades lead through the Königsbau. Two of them connect the central atrium of the building with the Königsstrasse, one of Germany’s biggest pedestrian precincts. The third opens up the eastern and western façade of the large block and integrates it into the downtown walkways.

All different uses are situated around the spectacular interior of the nine-storey atrium, which is the centre of the complex. Here there are attractive rooms for offices, retail trade and the exclusive furniture store ‘stilwerk’. The transparent, curved roof becomes a second façade facing the Königsstrasse, offering the user an appealing view of the green hills of Stuttgart. The Königsbau Passage form a prestigious and lively ensemble with the nearby square ‘Kleiner Schlossplatz’ as well as the new Museum of Art and the office building SCALA, which were also built by Hascher Jehle Architecture.
